Olly Murs Says He’s in the Best Shape of His Life Ahead of Huge Summer Tour

Pop star Olly Murs is hitting the road this summer—and he’s feeling better than ever, both physically and emotionally.

At 40, the chart-topping singer says he’s in the best shape of his life, and he’s got a jam-packed summer tour to prove it. The nine-week run will take him across the UK and Ireland, celebrating 15 years since he first captured hearts on The X Factor.

A Milestone Year for Olly

2024 is proving to be an unforgettable year for Olly. Not only did he become a dad for the first time last April, but he’s also gearing up for his biggest-ever hometown gig at Chelmsford City Racecourse on 6 July.

“It’s an extra-special year,” he told BBC Essex. “It’s a year of me becoming a dad and a year of me being able to celebrate with my fans what has really been an incredible career.”

From his first performance at The George pub in Witham (on Easter Sunday 16 years ago) to now, Olly’s journey has been filled with hits, high-energy shows, and plenty of charm.

Gearing Up for a “Relentless” Summer

The tour kicks off 13 June and wraps up in County Durham on 17 August, with Olly promising fans an experience that’s worth the wait.

“I’m rehearsing, designing the set, picking songs, getting the voice ready—it’s a bit mental, really,” he said. “There’s a lot of strain, so I’m just building the muscles and figuring out what I’m going to do and say on stage.”

Despite the pressure, Olly’s still all smiles. He admits he’s invested in making sure every detail of the show feels right, from the visuals to the setlist to the fan experience.

“I care so much about how it looks and how fans will perceive it. I just want it to be great for everyone.”

Reflecting on the Ride

It’s been quite a ride since Olly’s first audition on The X Factor, where his boyish energy and effortless vocals made him an instant fan favourite.

“When I watch old videos of me, I was just like an excited little puppy,” he said with a laugh. “Over the years you become more experienced and calmer. Now, I know I need to relax and just enjoy it.”

And clearly, he’s doing just that—while also staying sharp and stage-ready.

“I really hope when fans see me on this tour they’ll be surprised and be like ‘wow, Olly is really looking good’.”

No Plans to Slow Down

With four UK No. 1 singles under his belt, a recent stint touring with Take That, and a judging gig on The Voice UK, Olly isn’t showing any signs of slowing down.

In fact, he still gets butterflies before hitting the stage—something he says keeps the fire alive.

“That makes me realise that when the day comes that I’m not nervous to go out at the O2, maybe it’s time for me to retire.”

But for now? He’s just getting started.
