Israeli Airstrikes Kill 33 in Gaza Amid Tensions Over Ceasefire
At least 33 Palestinians have been killed in a fresh wave of Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip, according to officials from the Hamas-run Civil Defence agency and local hospitals.
The strikes, which hit residential areas in Gaza City, Beit Lahia, al-Bureij, Nuseirat, and Khan Younis, reportedly followed what Israel described as violations of the US-brokered ceasefire agreement.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz accused Hamas of launching attacks on Israeli troops stationed in Gaza and failing to uphold the agreed terms concerning the return of deceased hostages’ bodies. Hamas denied the allegations, insisting it remained committed to the ceasefire.
US President Donald Trump, who mediated the fragile truce, reiterated that “nothing will jeopardise the ceasefire,” though he also remarked that Israel “should respond firmly” if its soldiers were targeted.
A spokesperson for Gaza’s Civil Defence said rescue efforts were ongoing under dire conditions: “Our teams are working amid relentless bombing and severe shortages of rescue equipment. Many people remain trapped under the rubble, and the death toll may rise.
