Imran Khan’s Sister Accuses Nawaz Sharif of “Double Standards”, Claims Interview Was Doctored Using AI

A social media post attributed to Noreen Niazi, sister of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, has gone viral, accusing Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif of hypocrisy and political manipulation. The statement comes amid widespread speculation regarding Imran Khan’s deteriorating health and alleged mistreatment in custody.

Viral Post Sparks Political Debate

The post, shared from an X account claiming to belong to Niazi, alleges that members of Nawaz Sharif’s party criticized her for giving an interview to Indian media — despite Nawaz himself previously using Indian platforms to speak against Pakistan’s military leadership.

“PML-N’s double standards are staggering… They attack me for giving an interview to Indian media, yet Nawaz Sharif has himself used Indian platforms to malign Pakistan’s own military,” the account stated.

The post further claimed that Nawaz Sharif and his family are now benefiting from a “manipulated mandate” after returning to power.

AI Manipulation Allegations

In a strong accusation, Niazi stated that portions of her recent ANI interview were digitally altered using AI, allegedly to distort her words and mislead the public.

“Elements aligned with this same power structure shamelessly doctored portions of my interview using AI,” she wrote.

The claim has fueled concerns about the use of artificial intelligence to influence political narratives in Pakistan.

Connection to Imran Khan’s Imprisonment

Niazi linked her allegations to the current detention of Imran Khan, asserting that the same political actors are responsible for what she called inhumane treatment.

According to her post:

  • Khan has been held in isolated detention for four weeks
  • Family and lawyers have been restricted from meeting him
  • His legal and basic rights have been systematically denied

Niazi emphasised that she has never held a public position and is speaking solely out of concern for her brother.

Supporters Discouraged from Protests

She also claimed that Imran Khan has urged supporters to avoid street protests, warning that doing so could lead to violence.

“His supporters have asked him to make a call so they can take to the streets, but Imran Khan told them not to because protestors have been killed before,” she said.

Imran Khan’s Health Rumours Continue

Imran Khan has been in prison since August 2023, serving a 14-year sentence in a corruption case. Recently, unverified rumours claiming that he had been killed or was critically ill in custody spread rapidly online.

Both government officials and PTI leaders have denied these rumours, with reports in Dawn stating that Khan is stable and receiving medical treatment.
